The Ten Million Dollar Cat

So, apparently there's this small town in Japan that was facing bankruptcy and a huge economic slowdown when the people at the train station got this idea to promote a cat as the Station Master, and suddenly, BOOM, people came from miles and miles around to see this cat with a small conductors hat, and buy the various merchandise that bears it's likeness.  It's pumped TEN MILLION into this town's economy.

So, they had a video about this on Yahoo news and the cat seems really friendly, I mean, he'll sit on this little cushion and let just anyone pick him up, and pet and whatnot.  It's really cute, but I can't help but wonder, are people in Japan that bored that they travel a long distance to see a cat?  I mean, dunno what the pet population is over there, but I'm guessing there's plenty of felines to go around...

Ahh, but hey, it's cute, it's fun, it's helping people, so I'm not gonna run it down too much.

If you want to read more about it, you can click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tama_(cat), here, or here.  You can also see the Yahoo video here.

Oh, neat fact!  Just reading one of the articles, and listen to this: "When Tama puts his front legs together, the patterns on his fur form a heart shape. It is said that it is good luck for couples to visit Tama and be shown the heart mark."

Well, I like animals too (well some more than others) but I would travel six hours just to see a cat unless it could talk and shot rainbows out of its eyes or something cool like that. :)

lol true to that. Six hours is a bit far to travel..for a cute cat in a hat. I can travel 10 minutes away and get a hat....to put on one of my own cats:-p

Oh, I didn't know you had pets! (Or maybe I just forgot that...) How many cats do you have? Wish they let us have pets at the apartment complex, I'd get me a dog. Well, granted, we can have birds or fish, but we have to pet a $150 pet deposit. I mean, I can see with fish why they'd make us do that, big ass tank breaking can cause water damage, but a bird? How they hell could bird do a $150 worth of damage?

(shrugs)

Yep got two cats, bogart and kitkat . I couldn't imagine living in a place that wouldn't accept pets lol. Ive had pets all my life, grew up in a "mini zoo" .... I would go nuts without a pet lol

Yea they should at least allow a bird, or heck a small bowl with a beta fish lol wouldn't do too much damage if it broke
